About

A numbers desk for one city.

The Figures Desk follows the official monthly numbers that touch a Garfield Heights household: how many residents are working or looking for work, and what groceries, gasoline, electricity and heating gas cost in the Midwest. It publishes each new figure the day the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics releases it.

What it is not

It is an independent site. It is not the City of Garfield Heights, Cuyahoga County, the State of Ohio or the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and none of them endorse it. It does no reporting and gives no opinions: it does not explain why a number moved, forecast where it will go, or give financial advice. For news about the city, read local newsrooms; for official city business, go to the City's own website.

How it works

Twice each weekday a scheduled job asks the BLS public data service for every figure the desk follows, in one request. New months are stored and become items on the release wire; months BLS revises are stored again and marked as revisions. The words on the wire come from fixed templates that only restate BLS's numbers and the plain differences between them. No AI writes anything on this site. Details: Sources and method.

Who runs it

The Figures Desk is built and run by WeldonPC.com. It earns its keep from the optional Figures Pass and one banner ad from WeldonPC's own ad network on the public figures pages (see Privacy); there are no tracking cookies.
